
Alaska Youth Rugby Club uses the following Age Divisions for all rugby programs:
– U6 (Ages 5-6)
– U9 (Ages 7-9)
– U12 (Ages 10-12)
– U14 (Ages 13-14)
– High School (Ages 15-17)
U6/U9 Age Division:
For the U6 / U9 age groups, Alaska Youth Rugby Club is social, non-competitive learning format.
Model: Rippa Rugby
The specific goals for the age groups are:
- To begin to instill athletic discipline and emphasize character
- To get as many players to play rugby as possible
- Teach them the basic skills of this great game
- For their introduction to rugby to be a fun
- positive experience
U12 Age Division:
For the U12 age group, Alaska Youth Rugby Club is a social, semi-competitive learning format.
Model: Rippa Rugby
The specific goals for the age groups are:
- To reinforce athletic discipline and re-emphasize character
- To recruit (and retain) as many players playing rugby as possible
- Continue to teach them skills of the game, with specific skill development relevant to each position
- To make rugby enjoyable and a positive experience
- Begin to put an emphasis on competing at a top level
U14 Age Division:
For the U14 age group, Alaska Youth Rugby Club is a competitive learning format.
Model: Full-Contact / Rippa Rugby
The U14 age group represents a transition between the younger and older age grades.
The specific goals for the age group are:
- To reinforce athletic discipline and re-emphasize character
- To retain as many players playing rugby as possible
- Further develop their rugby skills with specific skill development relevant to each position
- To make rugby enjoyable
- To prepare the players for High School Rugby
High School Age Division:
For High School aged youths, Alaska Youth Rugby Club represents our
highest level and most competitive format wit emphasis on competition
and full-contact play.
Model: Full-Contact / Rippa Rugby
Physically, players are nearly or soon will be full-grown (but still
developing) athletes: fast, strong and very skilled. Our emphasis will
continue to be on athletic discipline and character building. Players
at this level may be selected for Alaska Selects Side teams that may
result in domestic and international tours.
At these age grades we emphasize:
- Personal responsibility in maintain athletic discipline and principals of character
- Maximizing the players’ potential
- Further develop their rugby skills with specific skill development relevant to each position
- Preparing the U18 players for college
